Someone got mad at their PC and over it went. I wonder who that is. It looks like it might be Yappy. No36- -To Save your FavoritiesBring up your favorities right then click on the one you want to save . Then left click on send to then left click on 3 floppy No37- -Microsoft Internet Explorer CACHE The size of the Microsoft Internet Explorer cache can determine how fast you can surf the Web. However, since the cache resides on your hard disk, its size depends on how much disk space you can afford to use. In this brave new world of super-sized hard disks, you may want to increase your IE cache size. To do this, run IE and choose Tools|Internet Options. When the dialog box opens, click the General tab (if necessary) and then click Settings. When the Setting dialog opens, adjust the "Amount of disk space to use" slider to increase (or decrease, if necessary), your IE cache size. The lowest you can go is 1 MB the highest is 28609 MB
No38- -NetWorking With USB- -Q: My notebook computer has many digital photos and I would like to back them up onto one of my desktops without using my Zip Drive. All my PCs have USB. Can I create a network using USB? -- Gene via email A: USB allows up to 127 devices to be simultaneously connected for a total of 12 megabits per second of combined bandwidth. USB has become such an easy and standard interface for connecting so many devices, why not connect computers with it as well, right? Wrong -- well, at least not over a regular USB cable strung between two systems. USB is strictly hierarchical and is controlled by one host. The host uses a master/slave protocol to communicate with attached USB devices. This means that the host initiates every kind of communication; devices cannot establish direct connection. Put two hosts (one on your notebook, one on your desktop) on the same USB chain, and you're in trouble.

No41- -Minimize Multiple Windows at Once- Many of us compute with several applications open at the same time. Rather than minimizing each window individually, you can minimize them all at once. To do this, simply hold Windows + M on the last window opened. Thanks to Christine for this timesaving tip. If you have a beginner's Windows tip, please email Michellev@techtv.com <mailto:michellev@techtv.com?subject=Windows Tip>. You will receive a T-shirt if we use your tip on the air.
No42- -Prevent Extreme Data DisasterWhether you're ready to face it or not, the day will come when your hard drive will simply give up the ghost. These tips can help prevent the loss of your precious data. Print this. We suggest you keep a printed version of the tips you'll need handy. The day your drive dies you probably won't have access to the Internet to look at these. Back up, back up, back up. OK. There we said it. If you value your data, take the time to back up your critical files. Do it right now, because Murphy's Law -- Anything that can go wrong, will -- rings doubly true when it comes to computers. Don't ignore warning signs. If your hard drive emits unusual noises (clicking, grinding or metal scraping), turn it off immediately. This symptom typically indicates a head crash that can destroy your data. Hard drives spin fast, at 7,200 to 15,000 revolutions per minute. Extensive damage can occur quickly. If you don't have a backup and need to recover data, you should contact a professional data recovery service like mine, DriveSavers <http://www.drivesavers.com/>, and immediately, as this situation demands work in a clean room environment. Here are some .wav files of noises to be wary of. [Bad Bearings <http://www.techtv.com/static/wavs/badbearings.wav>] [Cycle Click <http://www.techtv.com/static/wavs/cycleclick.wav>] [Excessive Clicks <http://www.techtv.com/static/wavs/excessive.wav>] [Grind <http://www.techtv.com/static/wavs/grind.wav>] [Raygun Sound <http://www.techtv.com/static/wavs/raygun.wav>] Use utilities wisely. Disk utilities can provide excellent preventative maintenance by fixing directory corruption problems. But they can also render data unrecoverable in the event of extreme corruption. Always save an "undo" file (a record of the changes the utility has made to your drive) in the event that it does not correct your problem. Symantec's Norton Utilities software in the Mac or PC flavor is capable of creating an undo file that you can save to a floppy disk.
No43- -How Hard Drives Works- -Like videotape and floppy disks, hard disks are magnetic media. Magnetic impulses with either positive or negative polarities represent the data stored on the magnetic layer of a hard disk's round, rigid platters. A positive polarity could represent 1 in the language of binary and a negative polarity could represent a 0. Each of these 1s and 0s is known as a bit. The hard-disk platters -- where the bits are stored -- are made of glass or aluminum. A typical hard drive contains several of these 3.5-inch platters, which can contain tens of billions of individual bits. The higher the areal density <http://webopedia.internet.com/TERM/a/areal_density.html> of the hard disk's platters, the more bits that get packed into each square inch of platter real estate. A platter is segregated into tens of thousands of concentric tracks. Because so much information can be stored in one track, the tracks are broken down into smaller units called sectors. Each sector can hold about 512 bytes of data, or 4096 bits (there are eight bits to a byte.)
No44- -Heed my warning- - Although X-Setup comes highly recommended by Leo, Chris Pirillo, and Joshua Brentano, I have to come clean and admit that it gave me a fair bit of grief. While happily tweaking, I somehow managed to disable my quick launch bar. Looking through the FAQ, I saw that this was a common problem. However, the fix they suggested didn't work for me. I even called in Patrick for emergency support and he was unable to restore it. Luckily, I happened to be watching a rerun of "The Screen Savers" at the time and Leo just happened to explain how to use Scanreg/Restore in DOS. David Prager suggested I use Leo's tip to send my registry back to the day before I made the changes. It worked.
No45- -Move over Tweak UI.- - Thanks to Dave from Powell, Wyoming, for recommending X-Setup, a powerful tweaking program that blows TweakUI out of the water. X-Setup, from X-Teq lets you completely customize your Windows interface to increase productivity -- or you can use it just for fun. Try changing the name of your start menu or your recycle bin. You can also add your own bitmaps to your browser. Imagine the possibilities.
No46- - Error Message saying an Illegal Operation Has Occurred. Models Affected: Any Presario unit running with the Windows 95/98 operating system. Symptoms: Error message saying an Illegal Operation has occurred. Resolution: Illegal Operation Errors occur when applications cannot communicate directly with the processor. They must access through the core Windows 95/98 system files. These files include: gdi.exe, gdi32.dll, krnl386.exe, kernel32.dll, user.exe, user.dll. If an application attempts to access the processor directly, an illegal operation error is generated. Causes Some programs are not certified for Windows 95/98 by Microsoft. The software is not written to Windows 95/98 specifications and may experience problems. The main cause is file corruption, either in the configuration files for the program or the executable (.exe) or dynamic-link-library (.dll) files. If there is a specific file named in the error message this is helpful. It can either be corruption in that file or in a file making a call to it. Sometimes replacing the file will solve the problem. Solutions Click Start / Run / Type / MSCONFIG Click on the STARTUP tab Remove the checkmarks from all items Except ScanRegistry, SystemTray Click Apply You will be asked to restart the computer Click YES Also uninstall the software that is giving you the problems and see if this solves the problem. The most absolute way to eliminate the error is to backup your personal data and use the Quick Restore. WARNING: QUICK RESTORE REFORMATS YOUR HARD DRIVE, ALL FILES WILL BE LOST!! If this does not resolve the problem, our technicians online are available to assist you through the Compaq Support Forum <http://forum.compaq.com>. But, if it should happen that you make numerous changes and then Microsoft Internet Explorer is no longer working as it should, you can go back and reverse the last few changes you made to see if that helps. If things have gone beyond the last few setting changes you made in IE, you just reset the whole thing and start over again. To do this, choose Tool Internet Options. When the dialog box opens, click the Programs tab and then click Reset Web Settings. Click OK to close the dialog box and start with fresh default settings.
